GB's Wood and Gems

        In every tree there lurks a Spirit,

they are called Tree Spirits or Dryads.

In every peice of that tree a portion

of that Spirit remains in the wood,

imbuing it with its presence.When I carve,

I strive to allow whatever shape that

is in the wood to come out.Sometimes

they are rather simple and direct,or

other times they may be more subtle

or complicated.The idea is to capture

the essence of the Tree Spirit in the

carved object.Some of these I will connect

 with right away,but some take a good deal

of time to understand.

         The statues that I carve are as detailed

as the subject allows.At times they may take

on a more abstract appearance,depending on

how the wood feels when I shape it.

       This is a recently-completed peice

 done in Red Cedar,a wood considered

sacred to the Mother.It mainly follows

ancient form,but a few liberties were taken

in the interpretation.She stands about six

inches tall,and is finished in Tung Oil.

        A similar statue can be done for you in

the same type of wood,or in another type of wood

at the same price.Please bear in mind that each

carving will be unique,and may differ slightly

from the one shown;that is the nature of

handcrafted items.

      This Spirit came quickly out of the

peice of wood in which it was living.

The wood type is not known for sure;

I beleive it is Black Locust or Honey

Locust root.It was found in a recently

 cleared area,and had obviously been

buried for some time in the Earth.It is

about six inches long,and is finished in

Tung Oil.

     This is an unusual peice which

emerged   from an ancient  Plum

tree root.The wood itself is quite rare

and the Dryad that revealed itself from

it is even rarer;She is a tree-mother,

a special Spirit that tends a whole

grove of trees and is a part of each one

 of them.They are much more powerfull

than a regular Dryad,and much harder

to represent in a carving.The carving is

 quite complex,with several different

Spirits showing themselves and entwined

with the mother.

      This peice contains the representations

 of three or more different Dryads,

depending on how you veiw it.It was carved

from an old peice of Black Locust root,

which had been buried for a long time in the

 Earth.It is quite an unusual peice to hold,

as it seems you can feel the different Spirits

residing within it.It is finished in Tung Oil.

       This is fashioned from an unusually

 shaped peice of Red Cedar root.This

is the way it wanted to be presented,

and here it is.The peice is quite beautifull

and is easy to hold;a freindly,calm

Spirit.It has a classic Tung Oil finish.

     Tree Worm Spirit is a very odd-looking

 little grub with a very protective energy.

She watches over you and whatever is

within her gaze,keeping everything safe

and repelling the dark Spirits.She was

carved from a peice of Magnolia wood,a

magickally-scented,protective wood.
